TomeNET is a multiplayer fantasy dungeon exploration game based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, AD&D and other influences. It is a game that emphasizes intricate, challenging, and varied gameplay over graphics. Hundreds of different monsters in randomly-generated, unpredictable dungeons will strive to slay you by various means, and you counter - if you survive - by developing the skills of your choice and wielding mighty artifacts.

• 2026-01-12: The so-far hoster of the NA server, dartnode.com (currently even their index website seems to be down), stopped service and doesn't even let us download the current server state. Unfortunately our backup is 1 month old due to a glitch in the backup script. Result: We moved the NA server to a new hoster (with new IP) which is working fine again, but there is a rollback of about 1 month. We will reimburse your characters for any progress/items lost, just write in chat or discord! (Small side effect: NA is now running 4.9.4 pre-release, wrongly telling you on logon that your client were outdated - ignore that message, official release is still TBA. ^^')
• 2026-01-19: Mac/OSX client 4.9.3 installer for M4 on github by Namo, link added on the downloads page.

• 2024-10-14: A third 'main game' server has been added: TomeNET 4.9.2 - NA (North America) region server. This one is hosted in Denver and should provide great latency for the USA, Canada and other nearby regions.
• 2024-10-02: Android/GCU-client makefile fixed (makefile.gcu) to compile non-test client correctly without errors, sorry about that.
• 2024-09-12: Windows Test Client now has a fix for IME (japanese/chinese/korean input methods), thanks to ASCIIPhilia.
• 2024-08-12: GCU-client (terminal-only/Android/iOS etc) improved, get latest changes from github: Now supports big_map by setting "Mainwindow_Lines 46" in .tomenetrc, and comes with lib/user/pref-gcu.prf that enables arrow-key movement out of the box.
• 2024-07-31: Added instructions for compilation on Android (phones) to the guide, chapter (2.1e)

• 2022-12-01: The latest guide is now over 25000 lines long. This will cause a crash with a 'Bad socket filedescriptor' message when you try to log in with a character. Please look here (forum) on the workarounds.
• 2022-04-10: Version 4.8.0 ninja-updated AGAIN. This time the crash of the draconian breath element-picking menu was fixed. A glitch with unstowing when backpack was near-empty was also fixed. Just hit 'update game client' button in the tomenet-updater (or download the ~3MB zip) and you're set.
• 2022-04-06: A second 'main game' server has been added: TomeNET 4.8.0 - APAC region server. This one is hosted in Tokyo and should provide good latency for the APAC region, asia/australia/india/maybe west coast too.
• 2022-04-05: Version 4.8.0 ninja-updated again, fixed CTRL+Z <-> \W collision and fixed \Wnnnn macro, and misc (see announcement forum, client-side updates). Just hit 'update game client' button in the tomenet-updater and you're set.
