Re: Newbie guides
The best tip is to not get too attached to a character when you're starting off, cause you're going to die a bunch and lose everything before you get the hang of things.
Cure critical wounds potions cure confusion, stuns, and cuts (but not poison, hallucination, or paralysis). keep a stack of them on hand and set them up to a macro. I use inscriptions which you can read about here, though the macro wizard(press % ingame) may be easier.
Try to get paralysis immunity before you hit level 20 or so. The most common item that does this is a diamond ring of free action. Certain monsters such as ghouls can paralyze you from a distance, which is pretty much a death sentence for any character.
Mikaelh's Tomenet website found here has a lot of useful tools & information not found on the guide. Some of the information such as potion/jewelry spoilers are obsolete, but dungeon/town locations are accurate as of this post. The monster lookup is also extremely useful, especially if you are playing a mimic so you can search for good forms.
Characters with a ranged attack or spells can head to the Orc Caves (31,25) as early as level 2 or 3 and pick off monsters from the entrance to quickly jump to level 10. You might die a few times before you learn what you can and can not mess with, but I personally find the Orc Caves to be less dangerous than the Barrow Downs.
Most of the player shops for everlasting players are located around Gondolin, pretty sure Bree has all the unworldly shops. Not many people play on the other game modes, though occasionally someone is playing on normal.
In later dungeon depths, fountains can increase your stats permanently, along with potions you find from certain monsters and on the ground. Since there are no fountains of death or detonations, some players like to drink from them in the hopes of a stat increase. The worst thing that can happen is either that you get paralyzed (negated by free action) or you get turned into a fruit bat (reversible via potion of chauve soiris, shop in gondolin, or just drinking from the fountain again if it hasnt dried up yet).
The yellow text you get when you enter a dungeon is called a feeling, which you can read about here. Feelings will let you know if there is anything abnormal about the level you are on, some are more scary than others. The most dangerous feeling you can get is "What a terrifying place...", don't spend any time at all on that level if you can help it. If you didn't see what the feeling was of a dungeon you can type "/fe" to display it again. You will not get feelings if you dive too quickly however, wait until the depth indicator in the bottom right of the main window has a teal * next to it, or if you are on the surface the name of the town will turn teal.

Re: Newbie guides
probably the worst thing that can happen if you drink from fountaint is to appear a Murk dweller which can easily poison you or drain your sanity.
on minimap you don't mark bank and mana pots shop
I nearly never go to Barrows, I don't like that underground trees,
