server?

Post by darwin »

I'm running my own TomeNET server like old 'funserver' but having various problems.
I always use command-line client to connect an administrator/dungeon-master character but lately the map is completely garbled, even though I set it to display walls as single characters, the map is just messed up... it's fine in the X client. Kurzel was checking it but I don't know if he set walls to display as single characters.
Accedit is difficult to use and after I had to get help to even use it, I made many mistakes including accidentally deleted a large number of accounts/characters... can I restore these if I have backups, or what do I need to do to let people play again? Please ask confirmation before deleting accounts/characters, and since they're kept there anyway, make an undelete.

Couldn't it be this issue? https://github.com/TomenetGame/tomenet/issues/39
Or do you mean anything else? Can you make a screenshot or a photo?

If you have a backup of tomenet.acc, you can restore it on its own. Of course, it's good to make a backup of everything, including your messed up tomenet.acc file.

I'm not really sure why you're using the accedit in the first place. The /val command is a much easier and safer alternative for validating new players.

The font_map_solid_walls option is in = menu, page 1.

I do more than that. What can I do to let people use their old account/character names if I can't restore them?

Solid walls are also known as garbled and the problem is something different (shown).

This happens on any GNU/Linux I use (Slackware, Neon, Mint) and is KDE Konsole X terminal (but didn't used to happen on this until after my server crashed and I rebooted... still, map works fine in TomeNET X client).

Exactly, they must be turned off (ie the option set to "no").

As orignally stated, they are. If they were on there would be many wall places '^B' was showing (that's what special wall characters look like in command-line client) which you can see isn't the case--it's something else (garbled for some other reason).
What happens to player/character accounts I accidentally deleted but whose files still exist--can they login and recreate? I used accedit to set a few other things like gave players permission for more than one login--maybe not important but I know some people play games with multiple characters.
