Summoning

I think that summoning should be done around the caster, and not you. It makes more sense for a summoner's creatures to appear next to him. This would help balance out summoners, giving you a chance to run and flee, as opposed to having 8 monsters suddenly surrounding you and killing you in a turn.

Summoning near the caster has been added ages ago in vanilla Angband... but not really to help the player. In older days, mages could easily kill Morgoth by standing in a sea of runes and casting mana storm over and over until Mr P croaked, without fearing any summon. With the new system, nothing would prevent Morgoth from summoning wyrms, reavers and balrogs as he wipes the runes and advances towards your character...
